Until mid-third century BC C. about the Romans shaved their beards or cut their hair. Those who were mourning carelessly allowed to grow beards and hair.

There were many female hairstyles. The girls collected the hair in a knot or braids. The married women preferred hairstyle. They also used false and dyes to change color of hair.

The gown was the quintessential Roman toga. At first the well dressed men and women, but later came to be used only by men.
